What community participation involves

Community participation is support to get out there: social outings, hobbies, sport, classes, volunteering, events and the everyday places that make up a life. A support worker comes alongside you — one-to-one or in a small group — so you can take part on your own terms.

It's usually funded under Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation in Core Supports. Your plan and the NDIA decide what's funded.

What's included

  • Social and recreational outings
  • Classes, hobbies and sport
  • Volunteering and community events
  • Building confidence in new places
  • One-to-one or small-group support

Community participation around Ermington

Ermington is a riverside suburb on the northern bank of the Parramatta River, in the City of Parramatta. It neighbours Rydalmere, Dundas, Melrose Park and West Ryde, and has a local shopping centre on Betty Cuthbert Avenue.

Community participation in Ermington starts with what's close to home: George Kendall Riverside Park, and the community programs and events run by City of Parramatta, listed on the council's website.

Ermington doesn't have its own railway station, so outings usually start by car or bus — and learning a local bus trip with a support worker can become a goal in its own right.

Local places that often feature in plans include Ermington Branch Library (Ermington) and Ermington Community Centre (River Road, Ermington).

Many people we support also spend time in nearby Rydalmere, Dundas and Telopea, and activities don't have to stop at the suburb boundary.

Yes. We support people in Ermington 2115 and nearby suburbs such as Rydalmere, Dundas and Telopea. Which worker can help, and when, depends on the days and times you need, so tell us your suburb and routine when you enquire and we'll confirm what we can arrange.
