What community participation involves
Community participation is support to get out there: social outings, hobbies, sport, classes, volunteering, events and the everyday places that make up a life. A support worker comes alongside you — one-to-one or in a small group — so you can take part on your own terms.
It's usually funded under Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation in Core Supports. Your plan and the NDIA decide what's funded.
What's included
- Social and recreational outings
- Classes, hobbies and sport
- Volunteering and community events
- Building confidence in new places
- One-to-one or small-group support
Community participation around Warwick Farm
Warwick Farm is a suburb in the City of Liverpool in South Western Sydney, about 30 km from the Sydney CBD. Its racecourse sits on the western shore of the Georges River, the Hume Highway passes through, and it neighbours Liverpool, Cabramatta, Lansvale and Chipping Norton.
Community participation in Warwick Farm starts with what's close to home: Warwick Farm Racecourse, and the community programs and events run by Liverpool City Council, listed on the council's website.
For outings further afield, Warwick Farm station (T2 Leppington & Inner West Line; T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line; T5 Cumberland Line) connects Warwick Farm to the rest of Sydney. Practising a train trip with a support worker is often a goal in its own right.
Local places that often feature in plans include Liverpool City Library (Liverpool) and Warwick Farm Community Hub (11 Gallop Street, Warwick Farm).
Many people we support also spend time in nearby Liverpool and Cabramatta, and activities don't have to stop at the suburb boundary.

Community participation in Warwick Farm: common questions
What can I do around Warwick Farm with community participation support?
Whatever you'd like to work towards. Close to home that might include Warwick Farm Racecourse, Liverpool City Library (Liverpool) and programs and events run by Liverpool City Council. We'll plan outings around your interests, and go further afield when you're ready.
Can a support worker help me catch the train from Warwick Farm?
Yes. Travelling together from Warwick Farm until the trip feels familiar is a common community participation goal, and can lead to travelling independently.
Can I choose what activities I do?
Yes. Community participation is built around what you want to do, not a fixed program.
Are entry fees and tickets covered by the NDIS?
Usually not. The NDIS generally funds the support worker's time, while activity costs like tickets and memberships are paid by you.
